A small and peaceful village of la Côte Bleue, on the banks of the Etang de Berre, Carro is part of the commune of Martigues. A fisherman's village, it is known as the "Isle of Provence", as it is a fishing harbour, but also a marina, a seaside resort and recognised as an excellent venue for all types of nautical sports. It is particularly famed within the windsurfing community. Every morning, the fishermen sell off their fresh produce on the harbour, by the traditional method of la "Criée".
