At the foot of the Luberon,
Vaugines is
greatly appreciated for its peaceful atmosphere and typical Provençal feel. It notably features
an attractive main square with a stone fountain, an old village with narrow shaded streets, the
Capitainerie (a remarkable Renaissance town house built by Antoine Bouchard) and the church of Saint
Barthélémy. The village is at the crossing of several marked-out trails (sentiers de
Grande Randonnée), making it an ideal place for fans of walking, mountain biking or horse riding,
and nature-lovers generally.
What to see, what to visit : Gordes, Buoux, the Regional Natural Park of
Luberon, the Roussillon ochres, Rustrel.
