An old hillside village dominating the Gorges du Charruis, La Rochette-du-Buis was originally a Mévouillon stronghold.
In 1755 a violent earthquake destroyed the church, part of the village and what remained of the castle, which is why there is
no longer any trace of the Château-gardien-de-verrou which the Mévouillons had built.
What to see and visit: the early nineteenth-century door lintels; the church – built in 1806 –
with its gilded wooden statue of the Virgin Mary with Jesus, paintings, a stone holy water font and a confessional.
Recommended activities: walking, horse riding, mountain biking, rock climbing, air sports, swimming and canyoning.
