Les Goudes

village of fishermen, les goudes
A Marseille arrondissement

Population: 360

A fishing village a few kilometres from La Pointe Rouge, Les Goudes stands opposite the islands of Tiboulen and Maîre, close to the splendid Île de Riou. The gateway to the local calanques cliffs, Les Goudes is home to a number of hillside cabanons that look directly over the Mediterranean. The Marseille-based writer Jean-Claude Izzo had his favourite character living in a cabanon in Les Goudes.

There are several small shops in the village, as well as a good number of bars and restaurants – these become extremely popular in summer. Some of the best underwater diving sites of the Mediterranean are accessible from here.

A twelfth-century Romanesque chapel, the Chapelle Saint-Michel, stood on what used to be the beach (now the harbour) – unfortunately it was destroyed in 1921.
Recommended activities: fishing, scuba diving.
