A perched village on a hill between the Luberon and the Valensole plateau, it dominates the plain through which run the rivers of the Laye and the Largue. Dauphin is amongst the most beautiful villages of Haute Provence; it is a listed site, with spectacular historical remains.

It was the Romans who first started cultivating the land here, when the Via Domitia was built; nowadays there are many attractive stone farms scattered around the local area.
